DATAGAME

DataGame addresses an important challenge of adult education providers and professionals in adult educators: how to deal adequately and in compliance with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation.

The challenge has even grown with the transition from classroom teaching to online learning since the outbreak of COVID-19. The wide-spread use of online platforms and communication tools pose new data privacy and safety questions. Many adult education professionals have not been prepared for dealing adequately with them. Gamification is the approach DataGame choses for providing data privacy and safety training for adult educators.

The general objectives are:

  • To raise the standards in data privacy and safety in (online) adult teaching by enhancing the digital competence of adult educators with regard to these issues
  • To describe the difference between data privacy and safety in adult (online) learning.
  • To communicate the importance of balancing innovations in learning with data privacy and safety demands.
  • To evoke understanding of the role of adult educators in protecting adult learners’ data.
  • To enable adult educators to recognise and implement the key components required to establish a safe and protected digital environment.
  • To motivate adult educators and engage them in complying data privacy and safety issues in their daily professional practice.

The main results are:

  • Increase adult educator readiness and capacity and ensure data privacy and safety in online adult learning.
  • Gain skills in gamification for improved teaching.
  • A DataGame Awareness-Raising Brochure: introduces data privacy and safety issues in online adult learning and provides guidance for educators and institutions.
  • A DataGame Gamified Training: A video-based game that educates educators on legal obligations and learner privacy needs, while developing practical skills for implementation.
  • A DataGame Toolbox: Offers practical tools and teaching materials to support data privacy and safety measures in online teaching and empower adult learners.
