The VETCompass project aims to improve the professional development of Vocational Education and Training (VET) teachers.
They identified a gap in research on the specific skills VET teachers need to prepare students for the evolving job market. These skills go beyond subject knowledge and include things like digital literacy, communication, and teaching diverse learners.
The project will address this gap by developing tools to assess VET teacher competencies and provide resources to support their ongoing professional development. This will ultimately benefit students by ensuring their teachers have the skills to effectively prepare them for successful careers.
The general objectives are:
- To enhance the quality of vocational education and training (VET) in Europe by equipping VET institutions to evaluate the transversal skills of VET teachers and staff.
- To identify the necessary transversal skills of VET Teachers/Trainers/Staff (priority 1 and 2)
- To assess the transversal skills of European VET teachers (priorities 1, 2, and the horizontal priority).
- To enhance the attractiveness of VET by aligning teachers’ skills with current needs in VET education (priority 2).
- To empower VET educators with targeted continuous professional development through tools and resources.
The main results of the project are:
- A framework for assessing the transversal skills of VET teachers and staff.
- A state-of-the-art, game-based tool to assess transversal skills.
- A report on the current state of transversal skills among European VET teachers and staff.
- A toolbox library with resources for developing VET educators’ transversal skills.
- A roadmap to support VET institutions in adopting policies and using the project’s resources for ongoing professional development of their staff.
